The Oromo Community in Ireland proudly participated in the Africa Day 2025 celebrations held in both Dublin and Galway counties, bringing the rich and vibrant heritage of the Oromo people to the heart of the Irish-African cultural exchange.
Representing the great Oromo nation—an East African ethnic group estimated to be over 50 million strong and widely residing in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia—the community added a unique flavor to this year’s events. Visitors experienced the beauty of Oromo culture through a stunning display of traditional costumes, cultural artifacts, and the captivating art of the Oromo coffee ceremony, a centuries-old practice known for its hospitality and symbolic significance.
The Oromo Community’s presence once again proved to be one of the highlights of Africa Day, offering attendees a deeper appreciation of East Africa’s diversity. Their participation helped make the events not just festive, but also meaningful—creating lasting memories for spectators and reinforcing the spirit of unity, inclusion, and cultural celebration that defines Africa Day.
As in previous years, the Association of Oromo Community in Ireland remained an integral part of the celebrations, standing in solidarity with fellow African communities across the globe and proudly showcasing their identity, history, and contributions to multicultural Ireland.
We thank the organisers of African Day 2025 for believing in us and giving us the chance to be represented and showcase out culture, identity and commitment to diversity and inclusion. The leaders of Oromo community Ireland would like to thanks those members and leaders of its community who participated on this year’s events representing their whole community.
